COURSE OBJECTIVES: This course is designed to help students understand the ways in which businesses organize and operate. An introduction to the basic business disciplines is presented: marketing, management, personnel, finance, law, accounting and economics. This analysis incorporates a global perspective as well as ethical, societal and environmental concerns.
INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES: This course utilizes a mixture of lecture, class discussion, case analysis, and in-class exercises. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the discussions and problem analyses, as this enhances the ability to translate the academic material to the reality of the work environment.
TEXTBOOK: CONTEMPORARY BUSINESS, Boone & Kurtz, 12th edition, hard cover or CONTEMPORARY BUSINESS 2009 (paperback). The book is on reserve under my name in the MDC library and in the Business Computer Courtyard.
