Which Institutions Are (and Are Not) Required to Provide a Net Price Calculator?
With the net-price calculator (NPC) deadline just over one year away, questions have risen as to which schools are required to provide a calculator on their website. Any postsecondary institution must provide a NPC on its website if it participates in Title IV student aid programs, according to the Higher Education and Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA). However, the definition of net price only uses data for first-time, full-time (FTFT) students. Schools without FTFT students are exempt by default. This means that institutions with only graduate and professional students do not have to provide a NPC, according to U.S. Department of Education guidance.
