Louisiana’s Higher Ed Commissioner Quits

Sally Clausen resigned as commissioner of higher education in Louisiana on Tuesday, citing controversy over her pay arrangements. The Times-Picayune reported that the dispute concerns her resignation for one day last August -- without informing the Board of Regents -- after which she was promptly rehired, but received a $90,000 payout for unused sick leave and vacation time. Criticism of her actions led the board to revise personnel policies. A statement from Clausen said that "it appears that my presence is a constant distraction to the important work of higher education and to the Board of Regents."
